The Free Store for Fire Relief is an initiative by SUAY, designed to empower our community in recovering and rebuilding after the destruction caused by devastating Los Angeles 2025 wildfires. Your financial contributions directly support individuals and families who have been impacted by these disasters, ensuring they receive essential clothing, textiles, and resources—completely free of charge. Unlike traditional donation efforts, which can overwhelm relief sites with excess or unusable items, SUAY focuses on getting specific, requested textiles to affected individuals and families with precision and care, all while minimizing waste.
At a time when many LA fire relief centers are ceasing to accept additional clothing donations, SUAY is stepping up to fill this critical need. By supporting this fund, you are actively helping us provide thoughtful, targeted assistance to those in need, through clothing redistribution. This reduces greenhouse gas emissions, lowers your individual carbon footprint, supports critical year-round community work, and provides the feedstock for all our remade clothing. It operates as a zero-landfill, zero-export fully circular and fully transparent system. This work isn’t just now, during the LA fires, but work that we are committed to every single day. Recycle Your Textiles with SUAY: Check out our textile recycling program. While we don’t have a shortage of clothing (having collected and sorted over 4M pounds of textiles since program inception), we need support with labor to clean, sort, upkeep the store, and sustain our climate-fighting textile recycling efforts. Please purchase a bag to recycle your textiles (or you can donate a bag for an individual or community organization in need). Our Fire Relief Free Store is open until further notice from 10am-5pm at SUAY (905 Mateo Street). We will have staff available to help pick items for yourself or if you are picking up items for another person. If you would like to send in a request, please put in a request from below! We will do our best to fulfill any requests for bedding, clothing, shoes, towels and beyond.
